Xiaomi has officially unveiled a unique founding souvenir to celebrate the launch of its self-developed flagship processor, the XRING O1. The announcement was made by CEO Lei Jun and follows the historic reveal of Xiaomi’s first smartphone System-on-Chip (SoC) at the company’s 15th anniversary event. The souvenir, presented to Xiaomi board members, features an aluminum plate with a laser-engraved schematic of the XRING O1 chip, and a real chip is embedded in the center. This collectible piece honors Xiaomi’s significant leap into processor development. Xiaomi 15 series, HyperOS 2.0 features and MemeOS Enhancer are directly linked to this new silicon breakthrough.
Xiaomi’s Bold Chip Strategy
Xiaomi’s XRING O1 is manufactured using an advanced second-generation 3nm process. It features a ten-core quad-cluster CPU architecture, placing it in the top-tier performance category globally.
Last week, Lin Bin, Xiaomi’s co-founder and vice chairman, shared an image of the commemorative chip on social media, emphasizing the board’s full backing of Xiaomi’s chip ambitions.
XRING T1: Xiaomi’s First Smartwatch Chip
Alongside the XRING O1, Xiaomi also unveiled the XRING T1 chip, designed exclusively for smartwatches. The XRING T1 powers the Xiaomi Watch S4 and integrates a self-designed 4G baseband module supporting eSIM. This innovation marks a major move into wearable connectivity and opens the door for more HyperConnect (Pengpai Zhilian) experiences across Xiaomi’s ecosystem.
What’s Next for Xiaomi Silicon?
During an investor Q&A, Xiaomi President Lu Weibing confirmed that their chip strategy focuses only on flagship-level SoCs. He stated that mid-range or entry-level chips are not part of their current plans. “We’ll perfect the flagship chip and modem first. We’ve completed 4G, and next we aim to conquer 5G,” he said.
Weibing also clarified that Xiaomi’s in-house chips will coexist with Qualcomm and MediaTek solutions, ensuring flexibility and continuity across product lines.
Summary of Key Chip Developments:
- XRING O1: Xiaomi’s first mobile flagship chip, 3nm, ten-core CPU.
- XRING T1: 4G baseband chip for wearables, first seen in Xiaomi Watch S4.
- Use Case: Limited to premium Xiaomi flagships.
- Future Plans: Expand to 5G, continue collaboration with chip partners.
